How hard is it to find a graduate position at an Architecture firm in the USA?

I'm currently in New Zealand (country) but would be interested in working in the USA, I'm currently completing a Master of Architecture (Professional) and have 1-2 years experience drafting residential houses in NZ. 1. How hard currently is it to find a graduate position at an Architecture firm in the USA (e.g. California/New York)? - for graduates of US universities 2. How disadvantaged would I be having an overseas degree - I would be looking for an entry level position and relatively low salary

Public Comments

  1. 1. The residential market have been taking a beating in California, Arizona, Florida and Nevada. States like Texas have maintained their value, but the general public perception is still jittery no matter where in the US. There will always be homes being designed for the really wealthy crowd, so there are opportunities out there. So whether you land a job or not will ultimately depend on your talents. At this time, having residential experience may not open doors for you. Companies are hiring personnel with hand sketching abilities, Revit experience, 3D rendering experience, commercial/education/hospital experience. New York will definitely give you more opportunities. 2. Having an overseas degree from an non-3rd world country will not hurt you at all. Your portfolio will be more important than where you obtained your degree anyways.
